Yet, as vast as the world is, traversing hundreds of miles of ocean and islands, the real marvel here is the internalized heart. We can say, with absolute certainty, that you will cry while playing Spiritfarer - probably multiple times - because saying goodbye to pals is always hard. Sadly (but also, quite profoundly), these relationships are fleeting, as the inevitability remains: the passengers are dying, and you’re escorting them to the afterlife. But digging a little deeper, at its core, Spiritfarer is a magical and emotional opus, chock full of wonderful characters with whom deep bonds are formed. On the surface, it’s a cozy management game, where familiar mechanics like farming and crafting certainly play a role - and customizing your ship adds a dash of fun.
In short, you’re a “spiritfarer ” - but it’s much less an occupation and much more, a journey. Acclaimed developer Thunder Lotus masterfully plops the player into the shoes (and floppy hat) of Stella, a plucky, newly ordained ferrymaster for the deceased. Spiritfarer is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that dares to explore themes and relationships rarely contemplated in video games.
